IMMORTAL is termed a research programme because it is comprised of a set of workpackages that
function as projects by virtue of the scope of coverage given to a specific impairment factor
and the inclusion of an extensive range of research activities to address the research
objectives.
The workplan for the 42 months (former 36 months as the time frame was extended for 6 months)
research programme of IMMORTAL is structured in terms of 'workpackages' and started 1st Jan 2002.
The workpackages are separated into administration, research, and policy
functions. These will function as managed 'projects' with objectives linked to the aims of
the overall research programme. The listing of workpackages in contained in Table 1.
